Kinetic Digital Holdings, LLC: integrated education

Jason Barkeloo, president of Kinetic Digital Holdings, LLC (KDH), presented an opportunity to invest in high-tech software providing educational materials using touch user interface (TUI) technology.

KDH is the holding company for Somatic Digital, which develops tools and hardware based on the technology as well as delivers product to the market; and TouchSmart Publishing, which produces educational materials incorporating TUI technology directly to end users. Somatic Digital is a supplier to TouchSmart as well as to competitors of TouchSmart.

TUI technology can be integrated into any sort of printed material to provide education, rehabilitation or training. It can be used for any type of educational market - from mainstream to special needs. In fact, while most companies/products focus on the mid to high function area of the market, TUI can address the needs of these plus the low end equally as effectively.

KDH is focusing on four states (Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and New Hampshire), with a total market of 8,119 schools, 3.8 million students and 8.4 million books. Revenue profile is a combination of yearly recurring income and consulting fees.

So far, KDH has received support from NASA, the National Federation of the Blind, Purdue University and the American Federation of Teachers. They also have a letter of intent to purchase from the North Carolina Technology Education Association.

Revenue is projected at $20 million by 2010. KDH is seeking $500,000 in Round 2 funding to complete prototypes.
