Brian Boley, vice president of sales & marketing for Onward Coating Company, LLC (OCC) presented his company's vision of bringing new technologies to the chrome replacement industry. Knowing this large market faced problems from declining capacity, environmental regulations, and global competition, OCC saw an opportunity to use PVD chrome technologies to automated commercialization.

Some of the benefits of this new technology include:

• Cost: half of traditional processes & materials
• Selection: can be used on more types of bases
• Versatility: more colors available
• Weight: 70% lighter than traditional material
• Environmental: 100% environmentally friendly

Five years ago, there were 4,500 decorative chrome platers in the country. Today, there are less than 1,000. The government is making it harder to make money in the industry, and manufacturers are eliminating chrome usage due to cost & weight - they don't want to build a car and be unable to ship it overseas due to weight constraints.

OCC is the leading company in the world to commercialize new chrome technology. In 2002, the process was approved by automakers. They already have customer support from GM, Ford, Toyota, Daimler-Chrysler, and 9 tier one suppliers and strategic partnerships with four development companies. They are the first to market the opportunity with an automated facility to apply the technology for industry validation.

OCC is seeking investment funds of $1.5 million to fund capital equipment and other needs.
