Established in 1995, Digital Scout International, LLC, is the nation's leading provider of sports scouting, coaching, and statistical-gathering applications for handheld computers (PDAs). Founders James Emery, COO, and Robert Mauck, Ph.D., CTO, with collegiate and international coaching experience, sought to fill the need for on-site coaching and statistical tools. With minimal marketing, the company has products in 15 percent of the nation's high schools. With angel investment, applications for four additional sports were developed in 2001. Revenues increased 21 percent in 2001 to $582,000.
