Business Brief
TweenPlace is a national-franchise-to-be, launching its first prototype in 2002, and targeting a $10 billion
under-served segment of the supervised care market. TweenPlace is leadership training, disguised as recreation,
exclusively for "tweens" (children age 10-14). Services are offered in two modes: TweenPlace Summer teaches the kids
to problem-solve "as if they were in charge" on behind-the-scenes "Discovery Trips" to sites of technology, government,
and arts, 8am-5pm, all summer long. TweenPlace AfterSchool provides tween supervision till 6:30pm on school days, and
features supervised homework completion by certified teachers and specialized instruction in such less conventional
activities as karate, pop choreography and skateboard hot-dogging. Designed for replication, the 2002 Cincinnati
launch will lead to as many as 250 operations in 5 years.
